how did you like the nat'l guard after the corp..im thinking of getting in to the guard..im a prior service marine...hoorah
Well, when I joined the National Guard back in 1973, I thought the Army was piss poor slack and had no idea of discipline or military values, no where close to Marine Corps standards, but some units have people who are experts in their field of civilian career, and often, you will find prior Marines among the ranks, ha. After being in the unit for a while, I learned a lot from these guys. Most were police officers, considering it was Military Police and all, and that is how I got into the business, kind of recruited one would say. Anyway, I had a **** load of good times while I was in, rank came quicker and especially much easier than the Corps did.
Being in the National Guard also depends on which unit you get with, some are hard corps and others layed back. I would personally attend a drill or two before joining up, would give you some time to look around. Being in the Guard also helps you in finding new skills, new friends and potential contacts for a civilian job. You also have the ability of working a civilain job while you Guard, that helps a lot, and you are close to loved ones, not over seas somewhere ... unless activated as I was, ha.
Anyway, hope this helped some, have anymore questions, sound off. Semper Fi. Jimbo
