All my life I had been looking for something, and everywhere I turned someone tried to tell me what it was. I accepted their answers too, though they were often in contradiction and even self-contradictory. I was naïve. It took me a long time and much painful boomeranging of my expectations to achieve a realization everyone else appears to have been born with: that I am nobody but myself. I have spread my dreams beneath your feet. Tread softly because you tread on my dreams.I like the dreams of the future better than the history of the past.You cannot dream yourself into a character: you must hammer and forge yourself into one.It does not matter what others think of you. It is what you feel about yourself that matters. In order for you to feel worthy and succeed in life.I never think of the future - it comes soon enough.
Because I am a woman, I must make unusual efforts to succeed. If I fail, no one will say, "She doesn't have what it takes." They will say, "Women don't have what it takes." I, with a deeper instinct, choose a man who compels my strength, who makes enormous demands on me, who does not doubt my courage or my toughness, who does not believe me naïve or innocent, who has the courage to treat me like a woman.
Whatever task that you undertake, do it with all your heart and soul. Always be courteous, never be discouraged. Beware of him who promises something for nothing. Do not blame anybody for your mistakes and failures. Do not look for approval except in the consciousness of doing your best.If someone is too tired to give you a smile, leave one of your own, because no one needs a smile as much as those who have none to give.

I have never met a person whose greatest need was anything other than real, unconditional love. You can find it in a simple act of kindness toward someone who needs help. There is no mistaking love. You feel it in your heart. It is the common fiber of life, the flame of that heats our soul, energizes our spirit and supplies passion to our lives. It is our connection to God and to each other.Among those whom I like or admire, I can find no common denominator, but among those whom I love, I can: all of them make me laugh.For in the end, we will conserve only what we love. We will love only what we understand. We will understand only what we are taught.There are no guarantees. From the viewpoint of fear, none are strong enough. From the viewpoint of love, none are necessary.
Who is wise? He that learns from everyone. Who is powerful? He that governs his passions. Who is rich? He that is content. Who is that? Nobody. I like to see a man proud of the place in which he lives. I like to see a man live so that his place will be proud of him.
Simplicity, simplicity, simplicity! I say let your affairs be as one, two, three and to a hundred or a thousand… We are happy in proportion to the things we can do without. Simplicity, clarity, singleness: these are the attributes that give our lives power and vividness and joy.
