Police and councillors have today urged people to be extra vigilant at Eastfield Road Cemetery after women visiting the graves of loved ones were mugged by youths.
replacement led light bulbs As reported in The Evening Telegraph, the latest incident involved an 84-year-old pensioner, who was knocked to the ground by a yob who snatched her bag - containing only a piece of cloth and a rain hood.
The youth pulled it from her shoulder as she walked away from the grave of her husband at about 12.10pm on Sunday, and then rode off on a bicycle leaving her lying on the ground.
The woman, who lives in Peterborough but has not been named, received hospital treatment for cuts and grazes and was left badly shaken.
Lita Collins (57), of Ramsey Forty Foot, near Peterborough, recently had her handbag taken from the front of her car when she was visiting the graves of her brother-in-law and her father-in-law.
She said: "I saw two youngsters on a bicycle carrying a bunch of flowers. They opened my car door while I was at the boot and then rode off with my bag.
"It is disgusting and totally disrespectful that youngsters can do this sort of thing to those visiting their loved ones.
"People are very worried about going there now."
The Bangles Eternal Councillor for Dogsthorpe ward, Ray Pobgee, former Mayor of Peterborough, said: "I am very concerned for residents who are clearly unable to feel safe in the community because of crime.
"It saddens me, but I fear it is a sign of the times, and people must look after their belongings when they visit the cemetery."
Iain Allan, of the crime management unit at Thorpe Wood police station, said: "People should be extra vigilant when at the cemetery.
"It is very important that this offender is caught quickly, and we would appeal for anybody who has any information, or knows his identity, to contact us on 01733 563232, or Crimestoppers on 0800 555111."

POLICE have issued a description of the yob who attacked the 84-year-old woman in Eastfield Road Cemetery.
Officers have said he is aged 19 to 20, 5ft 8ins tall, of slim build with a thin face. He is clean shaven, with light-brown hair, which is cut short and brushed back across the top of his head. He was wearing a black jacket, top and trousers made of a thin material.
